NOTE: Some variation in the illustrations may occur, but the essential information is always correct.
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
Refer to: Specifications (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, Specifications).

12. WARNINGS: Be prepared to catch escaping fluid.
Make sure that all openings are sealed. Use new blanking caps.
CAUTION: If brake fluid is spilt on the paintwork, the affected area must be immediately washed down with cold water.

15. Support the engine.

18. NOTE: Neutral must be selected before the cables are released to allow the cables to be correctly set on the install.
19. WARNING: Make sure to support the vehicle with axle stands. Raise and support the vehicle.
20. Remove the front wheels and tires.
Refer to: Wheel and Tire (204-04 Wheels and Tires, Removal and Installation).
21. Refer to: Engine Undershield (501-02 Front End Body Panels, Removal and Installation).
22. Refer to: Front Subframe (502-00 Uni-Body, Subframe and Mounting System, Removal and Installation).
23. NOTE: This step is only necessary when installing a new component.
24. CAUTION: Discard the nut.
25. CAUTIONS:
Make sure that the driveshaft is supported with suitable retaining straps.
Do not use a hammer to detach the halfshaft from the hub assembly, failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the halfshaft.
Special Tool(s): 205-857
26. WARNING: Be prepared to collect escaping fluids.
CAUTION: Keep the halfshaft horizontal to avoid damaging the oil seal.

28. CAUTION: Inspect the seal, replace if damaged NOTE: Automatic transmission shown, manual is similar.
If removed for access only.

30. CAUTIONS: Make sure that the driveshaft is supported with suitable retaining straps.

47. CAUTIONS: On removal and installation of the transmission, make sure that the transsmission does not damage the brake pipe.
Make sure that the dowels are still located on the engine and not the transmission.
