Remover, Halfshaft

1. Refer to: Battery Tray (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, Removal and Installation).

2. Refer to: Air Conditioning (A/C) System Recovery, Evacuation and Charging - GTDi 2.0L Petrol (412-00 Climate Control System - General Information, General Procedures).

3. Refer to: Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding (303-03B Engine Cooling - GTDi 2.0L Petrol, General Procedures).

4. Refer to: Front Subframe (502-00 Uni-Body, Subframe and Mounting System, Removal and Installation).

5. CAUTION: Discard the nut.

6. CAUTION: Discard the nut.

7. CAUTIONS:

Make sure that the driveshaft is supported with suitable retaining straps.

Special Tool(s): 205-857

8. WARNING: Be prepared to collect escaping fluids.

CAUTION: Keep the halfshaft horizontal to avoid damaging the oil seal.

10. CAUTION: Discard the nut.

11. WARNING: Make sure that a new nut is installed.

CAUTION: Discard the nut.

12. CAUTIONS:

Make sure that the driveshaft is supported with suitable retaining straps.

Do not use a hammer to detach the halfshaft from the hub assembly, failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the halfshaft.

14. WARNING: Be prepared to collect escaping fluids.

CAUTION: Keep the halfshaft horizontal to avoid damaging the oil seal.

21. WARNING: Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel related components. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may ignite. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.

Use new blanking caps.

31. NOTE: Discard the gasket.

32. CAUTIONS:

To avoid damage to the joint or gaiter, do not allow the driveshaft to hang.

Make sure that the driveshaft is supported with suitable retaining straps.

33. WARNING: Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.

NOTE: Remove and discard the O-ring seals.

34. CAUTION: Make sure that all openings are sealed.

Use new blanking caps.

35. Using a suitable hydraulic platform, support the engine and transmission assembly.

37. NOTE: Loosen the bolt, but do not fully remove.

40. CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping coolant.

Installation

2. Torque: 175 Nm

7. Remove the engine and transmission lifting equipment.

8. Remove the blanking plugs.

9. CAUTIONS:

Install new o-ring seals Make sure that the area around the component is clean and free of foreign material.

Torque: 10 Nm

10. CAUTION: The component must be aligned with the installation markings. Torque: 40 Nm

11. NOTE: Install a new gasket. Torque: 24 Nm

29. CAUTION: Keep the halfshaft horizontal to avoid damaging the oil seal.

NOTES:

Do not fully engage the halfshaft until the oil seal protector has been removed.

Manual transmission shown, automatic transmission is similar.

31. WARNING: Make sure that a new nut is installed.

CAUTIONS:

Do not use air tools to install the nut. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the component.

Install the halfshaft nut finger tight.

Torque: 120 Nm

32. WARNING: Make sure that a new nut is installed. Torque: 60 Nm

33. CAUTION: Keep the halfshaft horizontal to avoid damaging the oil seal.

34. CAUTION: LH illustration shown, RH is similar.

35. Torque: 25 Nm

36. WARNING: Make sure that a new nut is installed.

CAUTIONS:

Do not use air tools to install the nut. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the component.

Install the halfshaft nut finger tight.

Torque: 120 Nm

37. WARNING: Make sure that a new nut is installed. Torque: 60 Nm

38. Refer to: Front Subframe (502-00 Uni-Body, Subframe and Mounting System, Removal and Installation).

39. Torque: 110 Nm
