Daytime Running Lamps (DRL)
Principles of Operation
For a detailed description of the Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) and operation, refer to the relevant Description and Operation section.
REFER to: Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) (417-04 Daytime Running Lamps (DRL), Description and Operation).
Inspection and Verification
1. Verify the customer concern.
2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.
Visual Inspection
3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step
4. If the cause is not visually evident, verify the symptom and refer to the Symptom Chart.

Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) - Overview
OVERVIEW
The DRL (daytime running lamps) and side lamps are incorporated into the headlamp assemblies.
Refer to: Exterior Lighting (417-01 Exterior Lighting, Description and Operation).
On vehicles with halogen headlamps, the DRL use the same LED (light emitting diode)s as the side lamps, but are illuminated at a higher intensity for DRL operation than for side lamp operation.
On vehicles with xenon headlamps, the 'signature' side lamp LEDs are used for the DRL function, but are illuminated at a higher intensity for DRL operation than for side lamp operation.
On Japan market vehicles, the DRL function is inoperative.
Functionality - ROW
DRL will be switched on when the following conditions are met:
The DRL will remain off if:
The DRL are illuminated at a higher intensity than the side lamp operation.
Depending on market, DRL will be dimmed to the intensity of the side lamp or switched off when the turn signal indicator on that side is active. For example, if the left turn signal indicator is active, the left DRL will be dimmed or switched off until the turn signal indicator becomes inactive. The opposite headlamp DRL will remain on at full intensity.
If the hazard warning lamps become active, the DRL are dimmed to the intensity of the side lamps on both headlamps until the hazard warning lamps are deactivated.
DRL will be switched off when the following conditions occur:
The DRL will not be switched off when the headlamp flash function is operated.
Functionality - NAS
